GreenState Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative. As so, our Board of Directors serves the membership in a volunteer capacity. This section provides you with information on GreenState Governance and introduces you to each of our Board Members.
Fred Mims is a former Associate Director of Athletics with the University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Before his retirement he also served as the Interim Director of the University of Iowa’s Center for Diversity and Enrichment. Fred was first elected to the GreenState board in 2001 and currently serves as the Board Chairperson. He has been involved in numerous civic activities including the boards of Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, MECCA, Hawkeye Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce, the Community Corrections Improvement Association, and the Iowa City Human Rights Committee. Fred is a former judicial appointee to the Iowa Sixth Judicial District of Correctional Services. On the national scene he has served on the boards of the National Association of Athletic Academic Advisors, the Big Ten Conference Sports Management Committee, and the NCAA Division 1A Certification Committee. Fred has received numerous recognitions for his service including being the recipient of the University of Iowa’s Distinguished Catalyst Award, recipient of the NCAA Division 1A Athletic Directors Association’s Dr. Gene Hooks Award, recognized by the African American Museum of Iowa, inducted into the University of Iowa Athletic Hall of Fame, and a recent recipient of Iowa Credit Union League’s Cooperative Spirit Volunteer Award. Fred and his wife Susan have four children.
Lynsey Engels is president of Mel Foster Co.’s real estate brokerage division. Prior to advancing into this role in 2013, she was a Realtor® for 12 years. As president, she spearheaded the modernization of several of the company’s offices into boutique style spaces that integrate technology and utilize flexible workspaces for agents who work remotely. Lynsey is currently serving on the board of directors for the John Deere Classic, Trinity Foundation, GreenState Credit Union, and is involved with the Grant Wood Elementary School PTA. She coaches in the Bettendorf Soccer Association, is a sustaining member of Junior League of the Quad Cities, and a member of Brainstormers, a real estate industry group. As co-chair of Color the Quad Cities 5K run from 2013 to 2016, she helped raise over $250,000 for charities that serve children and families in the Quad Cities. She has been instrumental in raising funds for the Robert Young Center Children and Adolescent Services to help make a difference for children and families struggling with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. From 2005 to 2009, Lynsey was a Make-A-Wish gala committee member and wish grantor. She volunteered for Junior Achievement from 2005 to 2009. In 2007, Lynsey was recognized as a Quad City Area Leader under 40. Lynsey and her husband, Marc, have three daughters and live in Davenport, Iowa.
Laurel Day is a retired Administrator from the Cedar Rapids Community School District. She served in that capacity for the past 28 years and thoroughly enjoyed the rewards that come with serving as a public-school advocate. She is a former Human Resource Generalist for the United States Department of Justice/U.S. Trustees and Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at Coe College. Laurel has served on the boards of United Way of East Central Iowa, the Rotary West Club of Cedar Rapids, the UICCU Linn County Advisory Board, the Cedar Rapids School Foundation, the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival, and is a proud alum of the Leadership for Five Seasons. Laurel was elected to the GreenState Board of Directors in 2011 and currently serves on the GreenState Executive Committee as Secretary. Laurel’s family include her husband, Tom, also a retired CRCSD school administrator, and their adult twin daughters. Together their family enjoys the arts, travel, gardening, and supporting local music and school activities.
Drew Denning recently returned to Ankeny, Iowa, after 4+ years with Well Fargo Advisors in Saint Louis as a Senior Vice President - Retirement Strategist. Prior to this, he spent 26+ years at the Principal in Des Moines as Vice President - Retiree Services Group. Both positions were focused on providing advice and education to individuals and their financial advisors on how to best prepare for and live in retirement. He obtained both his undergraduate degrees in Management and Finance as well as an MBA from Drake University. He spent 16 years as a Board member for Premier Credit Union (formally, Principal Financial Group Employee’s Credit Union) having served in the roles of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and President. He was an active member in the greater Saint Louis Habitat for Humanity program and after 16 years, is still active with the Knights-of-Columbus organization focusing on programs benefiting individuals and the community. Drew’s family includes his wife Jane (CPA) and their two children, Matt (attorney) and Maggie (financial services), who live in the Des Moines area while Jane and Drew reside in Ankeny going on 30 years.
MJ Dolan serves as the Executive Director of the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees, which advocates and provides leadership education for Iowa’s 15 Community Colleges. In the past, Dolan has held a wide range of leadership roles for prominent Iowa companies such as Risk Manager for Mercy Medical Center and Corporate Trust Officer for Wells Fargo. Dolan served in the office of Governor Terry Branstad before moving to Iowa Association of School Boards where, over a period of twenty years, she served the school board in various capacities for Iowa’s Schools and Community Colleges. Dolan is a licensed attorney who holds a Bachelor of Business in Finance and as well as a Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Iowa. Dolan has three children and in her free time enjoys visiting them as well as engaging in philanthropic work. She has served on a wide variety of boards for various community interests.
Kevin was employed by Deere & Company for nearly thirty-eight years, retiring in 2012 as Group Manager, Human Resources - North America. While at Deere, he worked in a variety of operational and staff roles in multiple divisions. Examples include leading the human resources function at numerous business units including the Waterloo Operations, managing the U.S. Staffing operation through various stages of the business cycle, facilitating multiple project teams in business process redesign, and working closely with leadership to integrate talent management in an environment of significant business change. Following his work at Deere, Kevin delivered undergraduate and graduate level courses at the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business, retiring in 2023 as Associate Professor of Practice. His work included content development, instruction, and advising, earning awards within Tippie and broadly the university in student organization leadership. Kevin has served on the boards of the Cedar Valley United Way, Black Hawk County YMCA, and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, and holds an undergraduate degree from Luther College and MBA from the University of Iowa. He and his wife, Mary Jo, have two children and reside in Coralville.
Dick was employed with the University of Iowa Community Credit Union (now GreenState Credit Union) for nearly 40 years. Serving in many different capacities, he retired in 2019 as Senior Vice President of Operations. His experience at the Credit Union included serving on the Asset Liability Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and Credit Committee working with Retail, Mortgage, Commercial and Indirect lending, Loan Processing, and Collections. His oversight responsibilities also included Deposit Administration, Facilities, Credit Card Processing, and Information Technology. He was the legislative liaison for the Credit Union, involved with both State and Federal legislation. He was elected to the Board and Executive Committees for the Iowa Credit Union League. In association with the Iowa Credit Union League, he served as a Credit Union Political Action Council Board member. Dick has two sons living in Marion and Iowa City. He has served on several non-profit boards and enjoys many activities including biking, golf, and pickleball.
Tiffany joined Iowa Women Lead Change in 2015 as its first Chief Operating Officer. In 2017, she became the Chief Executive Officer. The organization is focused on workforce development through a gender lens, dedicated to advancing women leaders at all levels. Now called Women Lead Change, Tiffany has led the organization through tremendous growth, tripling its revenue and expanding its scope and reach well beyond Iowa’s borders onto a global scale. Tiffany is currently the co-chair of the statewide public/private EPIC Corporate Challenge. More than 400 individuals and Iowa companies have signed on to take the Challenge which asks Iowa companies to measure their progress in advancing women leaders. Tiffany is currently the mayor of Cedar Rapids. Prior to her time at Women Lead Change, Tiffany was an Emmy-award winning news reporter/anchor at WHO-TV and CBS2/Fox 28. Tiffany has been a dedicated Cedar Rapids volunteer for the past 20 years serving in leadership for non-profits including Kids First Law Center, Revival Theatre Company and the Alzheimer’s Association. She was also Vice Chair of the founding board and member of the capital campaign for the NewBo City Market. She’s been a part of the recent Waypoint renovation, ConnectCR trail project, HallMar Village by Mercy Medical Center and the recent capital campaign at First Lutheran Church. In her spare time, Tiffany enjoys flying, having received her private pilot’s certificate in December. She and her husband, Michael, have been married 29 years and have two daughters, Devon and Lucci.
Mark Rolinger graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1984, and graduated from Wartburg College, where he played Varsity Men’s Basketball, with a B.A. in Accounting in 1988. He earned his law degree from the University Of Iowa College Of Law in 1991. Mark joined the law firm of Redfern, Mason, Larsen and Moore, P.L.C., in 1991 and has been a partner in the firm since 1994. He is married to Lisa Rolinger and has three daughters – Abby, Allison, and Clare. Mark is a member of the Black Hawk County Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association (member of Business Law, Probate and Trust Law, Real Estate and Title Law Sections), and the American Bar Association. His law practice areas include corporate law, business transactions, estate planning, trust and estate administration, and real estate. Mark is currently the Treasurer of the Black Hawk County Bar Association and serves on the Professional Advisors Committee of the Northeast Iowa Community Foundation. He previously served as President of the
Vic Israni is the Chief Executive Officer of GreenState Credit Union, a $10.8 billion financial cooperative serving more than 450,000 members across Iowa and surrounding states. Under his leadership, GreenState remains committed to empowering financial well-being, advancing financial literacy, and driving sustainable, member-focused growth.
With nearly three decades of experience in the financial services industry, Vic brings a broad and strategic leadership background spanning roles as Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, Chief Risk Officer, and other senior finance positions. Prior to joining GreenState, he served for nine years as CFO of Wings Financial Credit Union, where he helped guide the institution through significant growth and transformation.
He holds an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona, and has earned both the CEO Institute designation and the Certified Credit Union Director (CCD) credential from CUES, reflecting his dedication to continuous professional development.
Originally from Long Island, New York, Vic now resides in North Liberty, Iowa, where he enjoys golfing, reading, and traveling, especially to Arizona during Iowa’s winter months.
Kathy Bader Courtney serves as the Chief Experience and Operating Officer at GreenState Credit Union, where she initially joined as Chief Operating Officer in 2018. Her current responsibilities span Strategic Planning, Mergers and Acquisitions, Retail Sales and Service, Digital Transformation, Member Experience, and Core Operations, including Payments, Card and Deposit Services, and Retail Loan Operations.
Prior to GreenState, Kathy spent nearly 12 years at Northern Trust (NTRS), a global leader in banking, asset management, and asset servicing with operations in 21 countries and ~$14 trillion in assets. Kathy held various leadership roles both domestically and internationally, including Interim CEO of NTAM Canada, CAO of Institutional Asset Management, SVP and Regional Head of the Asia-Pacific Investment Manager Liaison Group, and VP of Internal Product Management. Prior to Northern Trust, she worked for Charles Schwab in San Franscisco and earlier in her career, began her professional journey as a Management Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers which included several data warehouse/business intelligence/CRM initiatives. Kathy earned her B.B.A in Finance from the University of Iowa and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, graduating with honors.
Kathy is deeply passionate about financial and technological innovation and actively supports initiatives that promote economic empowerment, education, and women in leadership. An avid traveler and lifelong learner, Kathy enjoys podcasts/reading, new adventures, food and wine, and cherishes time with her husband John and their three adult children residing on the East Coast.
Heather Stumpf is the Chief Financial Officer at GreenState, where she leads the Accounting, Finance, and Facilities teams. Since joining GreenState in 2014, she has played a key role in strengthening the credit union’s financial operations and supporting its continued growth. Prior to her current role, Heather served as Controller.
Before joining GreenState, she worked in public accounting, specializing in audit and tax services. Heather holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa and is a licensed CPA.
Ryan Doehrmann is the Chief Consumer Lending Officer at GreenState Credit Union, a role he has held since January 2025. He joined GreenState in 2009 and brings over 23 years of experience in the banking industry. Throughout his career, Ryan has served in multiple leadership roles, including Retail Lending Branch Manager, top-producing Mortgage Loan Officer, Sales Manager, and Senior Vice President of Mortgage Lending.
A graduate of Simpson College, Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a focus in Finance. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2001 and was a starting member of the Simpson football team.
In his current role, Ryan leads all consumer lending divisions at GreenState—including Mortgage, Retail Lending, Indirect Auto, and Manufactured Housing. Under his leadership, GreenState continues its mission to be a top-tier lender across the Midwest. Ryan is recognized for his relationship-driven leadership style and his ability to develop high-performing teams.
Prior to becoming Chief Consumer Lending Officer, Ryan served as Chief Mortgage Officer, overseeing sales and operations for a team of more than 220 employees across Iowa, Illinois, and beyond. During his tenure, the GreenState Mortgage division became one of the highest-producing mortgage teams in the Midwest and has become a model for success, often looked to by peers nationwide for guidance on growth strategies. Ryan is recognized for his relationship-driven leadership style and his ability to develop high-performing teams. The GreenState Mortgage department has become a model for success, often looked to by peers nationwide for guidance on growth strategies.
Ryan and his wife, Amy, live in Williamsburg, Iowa, with their three children and are very active in their community.
Ryan Gage has served in the position of Chief Risk Officer at GreenState Credit Union since November 2024. Ryan comes with nearly three decades of financial services experience with most of his time at U.S. Bank where he managed Strategic and Reputation Risk for the organization. Most recently, Ryan was the Chief Risk Officer at Connexus Credit Union in Wisconsin. His extensive experience encompasses enterprise and business line risk management, corporate and payments strategy, digital channels, product and portfolio management, and agile transformation.
At GreenState, he plans to continue his volunteer work in support of the many communities they serve. Ryan and his wife, Anne, make their home in Tiffin, Iowa, and have 2 children.
Scott Taylor has served as the Chief Information Officer since September of 2023. Scott joined GreenState Credit Union in November 2019, setting strategic technical direction, and providing general oversight of all technology functions throughout the cooperative.
In his short time at GSCU, Scott has provided leadership and guidance on continuous improvement of processes and methodologies, established software and service standards, launched an information security program, increased focus on talent development and increased employee engagement, all of which have positioned the credit union for future growth.
Scott is an accomplished technology leader with over 31 years of diverse IT development and management experience with a proven track record of success. He is proficient in both strategic and tactical management with core competencies in leadership and staff development, relationship management and conflict management.
Prior to GSCU, Scott spent 12 years in the Program Management Office at Transamerica. He was a member of the Global PMO Advisory Board where he set policy and direction for the entire enterprise. In his role he was responsible for managing a $300M project portfolio providing oversight, governance, and performance reporting. Before Transamerica Scott worked at several small software companies in various capacities. Scott graduated from Iowa State University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in management information systems.
Scott and his wife, Katie, make their home in Swisher, Iowa, and have two children, Adaline (17) and Will (15).
Jim Kelly is the Chief Growth Officer at GreenState Credit Union. He has been working at GreenState since 1992. Jim and his wife Anne make their home in Iowa City. They have two kids, Jack (Iowa) and Rachel Creighton).
Jim received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1992 from Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska and graduated from CUNA Management School in Wisconsin in 1996.
Jim was hired to head up the Marketing Department in 1996. His experience prior to this was in mortgage lending, member services, and retail lending. As CGO, Jim is responsible for all aspects of marketing including branding, promotions, market research, member education, public relations, CRM systems, communications, business development, product development, community relations, retail loan and deposit growth, membership growth, the GreenState Foundation, and other strategic initiatives.
The GreenState Marketing Department has earned several national awards for its work, as well as an International Midas Award honoring excellence in Financial Services Marketing.
Jenn Bleil serves as the Chief People Officer at GreenState Credit Union where she leads a dynamic team with a people-first approach in such areas as talent acquisition, performance management, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, training and development, internal communications, organizational effectiveness, payroll, and culture initiatives. Throughout her career, Jenn has focused on the alignment of business objectives and value-driven people strategies. She is committed to fostering company cultures that create environments where people can thrive.
Before joining GreenState, Jenn led human resources in the revenue cycle management sector of healthcare as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Aspirion, headquartered in Columbus, Georgia, and Senior Vice President of People and Communications at Tegria RCM, headquartered in Washington (previously MediRevv headquartered in Iowa City). Prior she led learning, development, and engagement at Van Meter, Inc. Jenn also has a background in non-profit work, leading services at the Arc of East Central Iowa and leading training at Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, a behavioral health recovery management organization based in Chicago. Jenn received her Bachelor's of Art from the University of Iowa.
An Iowa native, Jenn resides in North Liberty. Active in everything describes Jenn to a tee. She is a mom to two, enjoys cooking, spending time at the lake, and embracing the culture and arts in her community. When she isn’t playing taxi, Jenn is probably volunteering. She currently serves on the Women Lead Change Board of Directors, ICCSD Foundation Board, Liberty Fund Board, ChildServe Advisory Board, and numerous community committees, teaches religious education, and is a sustainer in Junior League of Cedar Rapids.
Chris Pech is the Chief legal Officer for GreenState Credit Union and has a team of experienced legal professionals he works with at GreenState who each have years of experience in their areas of responsibility.
Chris is a lifelong resident of the Iowa City area. He received his BS in Financial Management from the University of Montana – Missoula. Returning to Iowa City, he worked at several local financial institutions including as a loan officer for the University of Iowa Community Credit Union.
Chris left the Credit Union to attend graduate school including an MBA from St. Ambrose University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law. While in law school Chris clerked for a general practice law firm working primarily in real estate and tax preparation.
In 2005 Chris joined a small law firm which became Litow & Pech with this firm quickly growing to be one of the largest creditor rights law firms in the State of Iowa. Solely representing financial institutions and creditors the firm represented clients in Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska. Experienced in process management Chris oversaw a staff of 93 employees, before eventually selling the practice. Shortly after Chris rejoined GreenState Credit Union as its first in-house attorney developing the legal department where he is able to represent the Credit Union and work with his team.
Chris and his wife make their home in Coralville, Iowa, and have two children.
